Call for Volunteers: St. Ann’s Warehouse & The Walk Productions present Return of the Buffalo: Tatanka Owe Akupi
/St. Ann's Warehouse is looking for 150 volunteers to come together for a week of puppeteer training to culminate in a two-day public art performance in September called Return of the Buffalo: Tatanka Owe Akupi. The Walk Productions is the same team behind Little Amal and The Herds, so you'd be training with some really incredible artists from the UK, Africa, and the US!
More info + application form are here, and please feel free to share with any fellow artists you think might be interested in learning a new skillset. Folks who have interests in physical theater and performance, community-based work, and site-specific or public art along with puppetry could all be a great fit!
Current students are also welcome to apply if they are able to make the scheduled training times and performances. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions, as I'm part of the producing and outreach team on this project - dina@notchtheatre.org.
More about Return of the Buffalo: Tatanka Owe Akupi:
A vast herd of life-sized Buffalo puppets will run wild through the streets of Brooklyn and Manhattan this September, a bold, beautiful act of resistance, resilience, and celebration as America marks 250 years.
For many First Nations peoples, the return of the Buffalo symbolizes the beginning of a new cycle in time. We are inviting you to participate in this moment of reflection and togetherness.
This is public art on an epic scale. 150 volunteer participants will be welcomed into the heart of the action. You will be trained to animate and perform inside one of our life-size Buffalo puppets.
